EVA Air Bans the Use of Power Banks Onboard, China Airlines Advises Against Use

Starting from March 1st, China Airlines will prohibit the use and charging of mobile batteries and spare lithium batteries during flights. China Airlines suggests passengers not to use power banks during the journey.

Following South Korean airlines’ announcement to prohibit the use of power banks on board, China Airlines posted on Facebook that currently, power banks and spare lithium batteries are not allowed to be carried as checked luggage and should be placed in carry-on luggage properly to avoid pressure or damage.

In order to strengthen flight safety, China Airlines stated that starting from March 1st, passengers are fully prohibited from using and charging their power banks and spare lithium batteries throughout the flight.

If there’s a need to use the power source for personal electronic devices on board, China Airlines recommends passengers to fully charge their devices before boarding. Most seats on China Airlines flights provide AC outlets and USB (Type A) charging ports. China Airlines stated that, for flight safety, power banks should be carried on board and placed properly, not to be checked in as luggage. Based on flight safety regulations, currently, it is advised not to use power banks during flights. Huaxin Airlines, a subsidiary of China Airlines, adopts the same regulations regarding power banks.

StarLux Airlines has been implementing a full ban on the use of power banks and charging on board since the airline’s inception because all seats on StarLux flights are equipped with charging facilities.

Tigerair Taiwan prohibits the use of power banks on board. Uni Air advises against using spare lithium batteries and power banks for charging various electronic devices during flights to avoid high temperatures and fire hazards.
