Etiquette Expert: Do Not Make These Four Mistakes While Shopping at the Supermarket

Going to the supermarket is almost a must for every family. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, many people rush to complete their shopping for daily necessities and groceries, easily forgetting the importance of basic etiquette and consideration for other customers.

To learn more about things to avoid when shopping at the supermarket, “Business Insider” interviewed etiquette expert Jules Hirst. Hirst emphasized that customers should never make the following four mistakes while shopping at the supermarket.

In crowded stores, it is considered impolite to leave your shopping cart parked in the middle of aisles while continuing to browse for items.

Hirst provided a driving analogy, saying, “You wouldn’t stop your car in the middle of the road. You would pull over and then do what you need to do. The same goes for your shopping cart.”

She recommended placing the cart at the side of the aisle or in a less crowded area.

Sampling snacks in the store while shopping is not advisable, but Hirst stressed that customers should pay for any items they consume.

She often sees customers casually sampling fruits like grapes before weighing them.

Whether you are picking up fresh bread, pastries, or doughnuts, using the tongs provided by the store is crucial.

If you touch anything with your bare hands, proper etiquette is to purchase the item you’ve touched rather than putting it back on the shelf.

When faced with a sold-out item or a coupon scanning error, some people tend to vent their frustration on store employees.

“They are just doing their job,” Hirst said. “So, please show some respect for the employees working there.”
