Elon Musk’s Million Dollar Lottery Case Rejected by Virginia Supreme Court

On Sunday, March 30th, the Supreme Court of Wisconsin in the United States unanimously ruled to reject a lawsuit filed by the state’s Democratic Attorney General. The lawsuit aimed to prevent Elon Musk from giving $1 million checks to two voters who signed a petition opposing liberal judges.

Despite the fact that the Wisconsin Supreme Court currently has a 4-3 liberal majority, the court declined to hear the case without providing a clear explanation for its decision. Lower courts in the state had previously dismissed legal challenges brought by Attorney General Josh Kaul, who alleged that Musk’s million-dollar incentives violated state law, which prohibits offering anything of value to induce anyone to vote.

Musk’s lawyers argued in documents submitted to the state’s highest court that Musk was exercising his freedom of speech by giving out bonuses, and any restraint on such action would violate both the Wisconsin Constitution and the U.S. Constitution.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court elections are set to take place on Tuesday, and the outcome will determine the ideological control of the court. Currently, liberals hold a majority on the court with a 4-3 ratio.

Prior to the gathering scheduled for Sunday night, Musk had pledged to distribute two $1 million checks to two voters who had signed an online petition opposing “radical” judges. Musk and his supporting groups have already spent over $20 million to assist a conservative judge in their election campaign.

Concerns are growing as the upcoming election in Wisconsin is expected to be pivotal, with the state’s Supreme Court likely to make decisions on abortion rights, congressional district redrawings, union powers, and voting rules. These rulings could impact the state’s midterm elections in 2026 and the presidential election in 2028, garnering significant attention from both sides of the political spectrum.
