The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, stated to reporters on Thursday (February 27) that he is trying to arrange a meeting between House Republicans and Elon Musk as soon as possible to discuss the work of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Johnson met with Musk at the White House on Tuesday evening. He mentioned that Musk will “meet with members of Congress, appropriators, and possibly all House Republicans,” likely to happen next week or shortly after.
Johnson said, “He (Musk) is eager to share his findings with the Republicans. In our private meeting, he shared a lot with me. I said, we need to ensure that all members understand the extent of fraud, waste, and abuse, and how egregious it is.”
Furthermore, members of the Senate DOGE Core Group led by Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa, will also meet with Musk at the White House on Thursday. Senator Rick Scott from Florida informed fellow Republicans at a closed-door luncheon of the Republican Steering Committee on Wednesday that he is also working to arrange a meeting between senators and Musk.
On Tuesday, Rep. Nick LaLota from New York, a Republican, expressed optimism about the United States House of Representatives advancing a crucial budget resolution related to the Trump administration’s agenda and pledged his support for the resolution. He stated, “Over the past few years, under the leadership of Speaker Johnson, we have been able to complete these missions before each deadline and secure government funding, so I am optimistic about achieving this… This is an important step towards getting our country back on track and fulfilling many promises made by Trump and House Republicans during the campaign.”
