The Chengde police in Hebei Province reported on the evening of April 19th that around 8:30 pm that day, a traffic accident occurred involving a collision between two vehicles on National Highway 510 within the jurisdiction of Weichang County.

After preliminary investigation, it was found that a minivan driven by a 49-year-old man named Li collided with a large truck driven by a 50-year-old man named Chen while overtaking another sedan. This collision resulted in at least eight deaths and one injury.

The injured person is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses posted online claiming that a middle-aged male driver was driving a Wuling Hongguang minivan, overloaded and speeding. It is said that he was transporting workers to a job site when the accident occurred. Many people were on the ground and unable to get up at the scene, with some trapped inside the vehicle, calling for help. The weather was bad with rain and snow, and the occupants of the minivan were all migrant workers, with one survivor among the passengers.

Another eyewitness mentioned that the narrow and slippery road conditions due to snow on the section of the road where the accident happened led to the collision. The accident was severe, involving a minivan and a semi-trailer colliding, with the semi-trailer driver narrowly escaping a major disaster.
