Multiple earthquakes have been occurring in various parts of China at the beginning of 2025. On the early morning of January 20th, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. On the same day, earthquakes with a magnitude of over 3 also occurred in Zadoi County, Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai Province, and Dingjie County, Shigatse City, Tibet.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the 4.9-magnitude earthquake in Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, occurred at 5:07 am on January 20th with a focal depth of 8 kilometers. Due to the strong tremors, many residents were awakened from their sleep.
Several netizens from Sichuan commented under the China Earthquake Networks Center’s Weibo post saying they felt the tremors and were shaken awake.
One netizen expressed, “I am in Hongyuan County, and the tremor was extremely strong.”
The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that on January 20th, earthquakes with a magnitude of over 3 occurred in Zadoi County, Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai, and Dingjie County, Shigatse City, Tibet. Zadoi County in Qinghai experienced two earthquakes within one hour.
At 00:04 on January 20th, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake hit Zadoi County, Qinghai (latitude 35.15 degrees, longitude 89.97 degrees) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
At 00:48 on January 20th, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Zadoi County, Qinghai (latitude 35.31 degrees, longitude 89.75 degrees) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
At 01:56 on January 20th, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck Dingjie County, Shigatse City, Tibet (latitude 28.35 degrees, longitude 87.52 degrees) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
Recently, Dingjie County in Shigatse City, Tibet, has been experiencing multiple earthquakes.
On January 19th at 00:26, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in Dingjie County, Shigatse City, Tibet (latitude 28.36 degrees, longitude 87.57 degrees) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
On January 18th at 23:36, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Dingjie County, Shigatse City, Tibet (latitude 28.35 degrees, longitude 87.57 degrees) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
