Eager Water Breaks During Concert Raise Concerns About Andy Lau’s Health

Recently, Hong Kong artist Andy Lau, who performed in Shanghai, has once again caused concern among fans after nearly falling off a 4-meter-high platform while attempting a “slide to kneel” move on July 5. On July 12, reports emerged of another worrisome incident during his concert.

According to mainland media “Red Star News,” after the conclusion of Andy Lau’s concert in Shanghai on the 12th, videos circulated online showing him experiencing vocal and physical exhaustion during the performance. In one instance, he was seen gesturing on a lifting platform, repeatedly signaling to lower it so he could get water. Fans also noted a noticeable change in his voice while singing the same song and observed him sitting on stage, sweating profusely and struggling to interact with the audience.

Some netizens commented that “during one song tonight, he seemed to have discomfort in his throat and gestured to lower the platform to drink water,” “Brother Hua seemed to have injured his throat during tonight’s Shanghai concert,” and “It’s evident that Brother Hua’s voice is tired.” Some even urged Andy Lau, who is 62 years old, not to overexert himself.

During the first concert in Shanghai on July 5, Andy Lau’s “slide to kneel” move onstage prompted anxiety among fans. While performing the song “Practice,” he executed a running motion on stage to match the lyrics. In a split second when he knelt on both knees, the momentum caused him to slide a distance, nearly falling off the 4-meter-high lifting platform. Many fans expressed concern over the danger of the move, advising Andy Lau to avoid such risky actions.

Fan concerns about Andy Lau’s vocal exhaustion stem from an incident in December 2018 when he held a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. During the third song, he suddenly stopped, choking up as he apologized to the audience: “I really can’t sing anymore, I’m sorry.” It turned out he had inflamed vocal cords and was unable to continue, eventually canceling the remaining four shows after being diagnosed with the flu.

At that time, Andy Lau repeatedly apologized to his fans on stage. Despite receiving their understanding and sympathy, he cried like a child, with the audience shouting, “Andy, don’t cry!” in support from below the stage.
