Recently, a video depicting a large number of suspected one hundred yuan bills scattered under the bridge of Lvliang College in Shanxi Province has been circulating on the internet. Several informed sources claimed that the bills are genuine, with estimates suggesting at least 100,000 yuan.
The 1 minute and 57-second on-site video shows that there is still ice and snow on the river surface, with a considerable amount of one hundred yuan bills scattered on the riverbank under the bridge approximately four to five meters high. There appears to be a black bag left behind at the scene, along with many discarded firecrackers.
According to a report by Huashang Daily, on March 9, the newspaper contacted a local informant who confirmed the incident occurring on March 8.
“It happened next to the new campus of Lvliang College, right next to the school, where the water is shallow in winter. I also learned about the situation, and apparently it is not training currency but actual bills,” stated the informant.
Training vouchers, also known as teller practice paper, are specialized papers used by bank employees to practice counting money and are not circulated in society.
Another source mentioned, “It is said to be real money, and the police came to the scene to collect it.”
The individual who posted the video mentioned that when passing by, the local police station had already arrived. The first person who discovered it reported to the authorities. Many people were recording videos at the scene.
The netizen stated, “It is not clear who specifically discarded the money. I estimate it was thrown down one or two days ago. There are also bills on the downstream bridge, totaling at least 100,000 yuan, and they are not counterfeit or training vouchers.”
The netizen commented, “Facing so much money, no one dares to pick it up. Who would dare when there are so many people watching?”

According to reports, on March 9, the staff of the Lvliang Fire Command Center responded that it was the Lvliang Station Front Special Operations Squadron that went to the scene to collect the money.
When asked about the authenticity of the bills found on site, the staff stated that the local police station officers went under the bridge to collect the money. “They did not inform us either; they went down using our fire ladder.”
In response to inquiries, the police of the Chengbei Police Station of Lishi Branch of Lvliang Public Security Bureau stated, “That is under the jurisdiction of Xishuoba Police Station (under investigation).”
The police from Xishuoba Police Station verified, saying, “That is within our jurisdiction. However, there is no (investigation) result at the moment.”
