According to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision, on October 15, Ma Yilei is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and has voluntarily surrendered. He is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation.
At the age of 58, Ma Yilei has had a long career in Urumqi, having served as Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Urumqi Construction Committee, Vice Chairman of the Urumqi Political Consultative Conference, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Construction Committee.
In June 2017, he was appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Urumqi and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Airport Group, Deputy Chairman, and General Manager.
In October 2023, Ma Yilei was transferred to the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Party Committee and the Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Administrative Bureau.
