In the history of the United States, during the era when self-proclaimed leaders of peace movements sought and cheered for the victory of communist enemies in Indochina, the American news media largely praised their heroic deeds while disparaging the US military and police. The majority of people remained silent.
This dominant narrative about Vietnam continues to prevail in historical accounts and documentaries. Particularly, top American documentary filmmaker Ken Burns has romanticized a small group called the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) and overlooked the 90% of Vietnam War veterans who still take pride in their service in an ultimately imperfect war.
During that time, media coverage largely obscured the support of peace movements for the enemy during the war and their financial contributions to communism. These activists portrayed themselves as anti-war, yet tended to support the other side. Even today, most surviving peace movement participants continue this trend, regularly gathering to celebrate their contributions to the Indochinese regimes, which have killed more people than those lost during the war.
Despite significant media and political divisions within the United States today, widespread anti-American violence on campuses supporting Hamas terrorists, opposing Jews and the free nation of Israel is being systematically exposed.
Reactions from all sides are unanimous. This transcends partisan competition. It is unexpected.
This is the true face of America.
Terrorists are being recognized by the public. Their propaganda is being widely questioned. Their sources of funding are under official investigation. Professional agitators within the peace movement are being uncovered, and some have even been identified.
Following the bad news of thugs occupying university campuses and university bureaucrats remaining indifferent, this is undoubtedly the good news the public has been waiting for.
The troops and police who clear occupied university spaces and buildings are hailed as heroes.
This good news is welcome, although there is still a lot of work to be done to repair the leftist indoctrination in the American education system from kindergarten to the twelfth grade and even in doctoral programs.
As the cartoon character Pogo once said, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”
Well, at least we understand that the enemy has infiltrated deep within us.
