Commander of US Aircraft Carrier Lands Plane on Deck a Thousand Times, Achieving Milestone

The commander of the Carrier Strike Group ONE of the US Navy, Rear Admiral Michael Wosje, recently achieved a personal milestone by completing his 1,000th aircraft landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier, setting a new record and establishing himself as a model leader with his exemplary leadership style.

The Carrier Strike Group ONE includes the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, Carrier Air Wing 2, the missile cruiser USS Princeton, and Destroyer Squadron 1’s missile destroyer.

On February 16, Wosje flew an F/A-18E fighter jet and successfully landed on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson, marking his 1,000th landing on an aircraft carrier deck. This is a significant milestone in the career of any seasoned pilot.

At the time, the F/A-18E fighter jet was deployed with Strike Fighter Squadron 113 and participated in the “Pacific Steller 2025” joint exercise in the Philippine Sea with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the French Navy.

In addition to the USS Carl Vinson, the joint exercise also involved Japan’s helicopter destroyer JS Kaga and the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. The exercise focused on air defense warfare, anti-submarine aircraft, and helicopter detection of submarines, and took place from February 8th to the 18th.

The US Navy stated that the purpose of this exercise is to promote alliances and maritime security, supporting a safe and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Japanese Defense Minister Moto Nakatani stated during a regular press conference on February 7 that the joint exercise between Japan, the United States, and France demonstrates the French Navy’s interest and capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region. He emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation among countries to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific vision.
