Chongqing couple throws knives out the window during argument, delivery driver injured and hospitalized.

Recently, a video circulating online claimed that a high-altitude knife-throwing incident occurred in the Huayan Town, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, at the Min’an Huafu Community. The incident resulted in a delivery driver downstairs being hit by a knife and hospitalized, causing public concern.

According to Mr. Wang, the delivery driver, who lives in the Min’an Huafu Community, at around 6 p.m. on December 10th, he was preparing to ride his electric bike to deliver food when a sharp knife fell from the sky, hitting his helmet and then landing on his right hand. He expressed feeling severe pain in his hand, with a visible bone-deep wound.

The hospital’s diagnosis revealed that Mr. Wang suffered multiple injuries to his right hand, including fractures in the third and fourth metacarpal bones with bone loss, a severed tendon in his middle finger, and damage to other finger tendons and blood vessels. On the morning of December 11th, Mr. Wang underwent surgery at the hospital and is currently receiving further treatment.

On the 13th, the Jiulongpo District Branch of Chongqing Public Security Bureau issued a report. The report stated that on the day of the incident around 6 p.m., a 38-year-old man named Yan, residing in a high-rise in Huayan Town, Jiulongpo District, threw a “fruit knife” out the window during a quarrel with his wife, resulting in the injury to the right hand of a passing delivery driver. Yan has been detained by the authorities.

However, according to reports from “Dawan News,” a resident in the community provided a photo showing that the involved knife was a blue-handled pointed knife with a certain brand name imprinted on the blade. A check on the brand’s official online store indicated that this knife is a kitchen cutting tool intended for domestic chefs, rather than a fruit knife.

The slicing knife is similar to a regular kitchen knife but with a thin and sharp blade specifically designed for slicing, cutting meat, shredding, and segmenting. On the other hand, a fruit knife is meant for handling fruits, typically featuring a shorter blade, around 5 to 10 centimeters long.

The incident has sparked discussions online, with many netizens expressing outrage. Some stated that throwing objects from a high altitude should be considered a criminal act, emphasizing the importance of understanding the dangers of such actions and being accountable for one’s behavior.

One netizen shared a similar experience in their community but fortunately avoided being hit. They criticized the lack of concern for others and the prevalence of selfish behaviors in society. Another netizen recounted the frequent occurrence of objects being thrown from a 27-story building near their shop, highlighting the fear and risk involved.

Amidst these discussions, one netizen questioned why incidents of high-altitude throwing persist despite penalties being in place, suggesting that the leniency of punishments could be a contributing factor.
