Chinese Woman In Sri Lanka Falls Off Train And Suffers Serious Injuries

On March 9th local time, a Chinese female tourist was seriously injured after falling from a moving train traveling from Nanu Oya to Badulla on the inland railway line in Sri Lanka near the Idalgashinna tunnel.

According to local media in Sri Lanka, the injured Chinese female tourist, aged 35, had her body leaning out of the train during the journey when her head suddenly struck the 19th railway tunnel of Idalgashinna.

Following the incident, she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred twice. The hospital stated that she had sustained severe injuries to her head and legs, and her condition remains critical.

Reported by Red Star News, Krish, the former secretary of the Sri Lanka Tourist Guide and Driver Association, noted the above news. When many tourists travel to Sri Lanka, they often like to extend their bodies out of moving trains and even hang their entire body outside the train while taking photos for souvenirs.

Krish, the tour guide, mentioned that it’s not just Chinese tourists who engage in this kind of photography; almost all tourists, predominantly from Europe and America, enjoy doing so. “I’m not sure which country’s tourists started this trend, but I’ve seen almost all tourists do it. Over the past few years, many people have been injured or even died as a result. This practice is truly very dangerous.”

Krish expressed great sorrow over the occurrence of this incident. He stated that in Sri Lanka, there are slow-speed trains specifically provided for tourists to meet their photography needs. “Between Bandarawela and Demodara, there is a special train prepared for tourists called the ‘Calypso Train,’ which doesn’t move very quickly and makes stops at all the scenic spots between stations, allowing tourists ample time for photography. So, there are indeed safer ways to take souvenir photos, but most tourists are unaware of them.”
