Chinese Military Drills Against Taiwan! White House: Opposes Unilateral Changes to the Status Quo Through Force or Coercion

On April 1, 2025, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese Communist Party announced military exercises targeting Taiwan, emphasizing that this is a warning and deterrent against “Taiwan independence” forces. This action has once again drawn attention to the “China Threat Theory,” with many international observers believing that China’s military expansion and pressure on Taiwan pose a potential threat to regional stability.

The White House reiterated its opposition to any unilateral changes to the status quo through force or coercion. As a crucial strategic hub in the Asia-Pacific region, Taiwan’s strategic value and contribution to the world cannot be overlooked. Taiwan is not only a key part of the global technology supply chain, but its democratic system and free market economy also provide vital support for regional prosperity and stability.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated at a press conference: “The National Security Council briefed me on this matter, and the President emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait, encouraging the resolution of cross-strait issues through peaceful means, and reiterated our opposition to any unilateral changes to the status quo through force or coercion.” She added, “This message comes directly from the National Security Advisor.”

CNN reported that China’s recent military exercises have increased Taiwan’s concerns, especially against the backdrop of the U.S. reshaping global relations with its foreign policy.

The European Union’s External Action Service (EEAS) also issued a statement criticizing China’s military exercises around Taiwan, calling on all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Notably, the Eastern Theater Command has continuously released promotional videos and posters on WeChat and Weibo platforms. One animation, titled “Bombshell,” depicts Lai Ching-te as a cartoon insect, caught between chopsticks above a burning Taiwan. The animation’s subtitles read: “Parasites poison Taiwan Island, parasites hollow out Taiwan Island, parasites lead to ultimate destruction.”
