In a fit of anger, he smashed the stalker’s phone, sparking attention and discussions in the entertainment industry.
Yu Chengen, 26 years old, gained attention for his performances in TV dramas such as “My Dear, Loved” and “Starry and Bright.” Particularly in “Starry and Bright,” where he portrayed the refined and gentle character “Lou Yao,” he won the hearts of the audience. However, Yu Chengen’s recent incident of getting physical with a fan who was excessively following him has caused quite a stir.
Videos circulating online show Yu Chengen dressed in a low-key manner, encountering the stalker at a shopping mall and later quietly waiting for a ride by the roadside, still followed closely by the sasaeng fan. Despite his impatience and verbal warnings of “Stop filming,” the fan persisted in recording. Eventually, an agitated Yu Chengen swiftly approached and smashed the stalker’s phone, resulting in a physical altercation. Staff members nearby quickly intervened to diffuse the situation.
Afterwards, Yu Chengen loudly questioned the fan, “Are you still recording?” The dispute only ended after the fan replied, “I’m not recording anymore.”
Yu Chengen’s bold response led many netizens to praise him, with some saying, “He dared to do what many stars wish to do but dare not, he’s so brave,” and “He wouldn’t have acted like this if he wasn’t really upset.” However, some criticized his reaction as too intense, saying, “Filming a video won’t make him lose anything.”
In response to the incident, Yu Chengen’s official fan club posted on the 9th, condemning the sasaeng behavior of individuals who obtained the artist’s schedule through illegal means, engaged in chasing and stalking, and called for the respect of celebrities’ privacy to provide them with a safe and harmonious work and living environment.
