Chinese Cultural Learning Center to Hold Taiwan Family Study Camp.

The Chinese Cultural Learning Center in Northern California will launch the second session of the “Taiwan Parent-Child Study Camp” in the summer of 2025. This program is specially designed for American elementary and middle school students and their parents, combining forest therapy, Chinese language learning, and deep cultural experiences to lead participants on an unforgettable and enchanting journey.

Principal Li Tingyi of the Chinese Cultural Learning Center in Northern California expressed that the initial intention of the program is to promote interaction and communication between parents and children, bridge the cultural differences between Taiwan and the U.S., and provide a rare opportunity for families interested in exploring Taiwanese culture and nature.

The contact person for the Taiwan Parent-Child Study Camp, Wang Changtai, mentioned that this summer camp is very meaningful. The cool summer climate of the Daxueshan in Taichung offers encounters with various small animals, while the hot spring fish at Guguan Hot Spring gently nibble at your feet, creating a fun and engaging experience. Additionally, activities include tea picking, beekeeping, insect observation, allowing city children to have the chance to connect with the wonders of nature. Importantly, the entire process is filled with joy, enabling children to learn and grow through play.

Li Tingyi stressed the importance of travel as an educational experience. She exemplified the differences between Taiwan’s big buns and American biscuits, emphasizing that without experiencing it firsthand, children would never know the distinctions. Therefore, creating more opportunities for them to experience and learn is crucial.

She further explained that while some parents often take their children on trips, the experiences with carefully designed courses from professional teachers are incomparable. The study camp curriculum is meticulously planned by professional professors or therapists to allow children and parents to participate together. For example, children interacting with snakes on the mountain, guided by teachers, even becoming friends with the snakes. These unique experiences profoundly impact children’s growth, enhance family relationships, and provide educational enjoyment.

First Week: Forest Therapy and Ecological Exploration. Explore natural landmarks such as Daxueshan and Baixianshan, stroll through forest trails, participate in tree planting and nighttime observation, and personally experience the healing power of nature. Additionally, visit a mushroom farm, learn orchid cultivation, practice kendo and indigo dyeing with local elementary school students, fostering teamwork spirit.

Second Week: In-depth Language and Cultural Experience at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei. Different themes are offered daily, including leisure, festivals, cuisine, and travel, to help children easily grasp daily Chinese conversation. Participate in cultural heritage and handicraft activities, make traditional Chinese pastries and unique crafts by hand, experience the charm of traditional children’s games and indigenous culture, and take a nostalgic stroll through Jiufen. During the closing ceremony, students will showcase their learning outcomes, visit the Overseas Community Affairs Council, marking a perfect end to this unforgettable journey.
