Chinese Communist Party Reiterates Willingness for Peaceful Unification, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Criticizes Disregard for Facts

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party said it is willing to strive for peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and effort, as well as the fallacy concerning United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, which not only ignores facts but also distorts right and wrong, and misleads the international community.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party, Mao Ning, stated during a routine press conference on the 10th that the Chinese Communist government is willing to strive for peaceful reunification with Taiwan with the utmost sincerity and effort, but will also take all necessary measures to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The 1971 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 clearly states that there is only one China in the world.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China solemnly reiterated that Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China are not subordinate to each other. The Chinese Communist regime has never ruled Taiwan. Any claim that distorts Taiwan’s sovereign status cannot change the internationally recognized status quo of the Taiwan Strait. The future of Taiwan must be jointly determined by the 23.5 million people of Taiwan, and the Chinese Communists have no right to interfere.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China reiterated once again that United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 only determines the representation of China in the United Nations and never mentions Taiwan, nor does it recognize Taiwan as part of the People’s Republic of China, nor does it authorize the People’s Republic of China to represent Taiwan in the United Nations.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China warned the Chinese side to recognize the fact that Taiwan is a sovereign independent country of the Republic of China. Taiwan has never been a part of the People’s Republic of China, and the fact that the two sides are not subordinate to each other is the current status quo in the Taiwan Strait and a long-standing objective reality recognized internationally.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China also called on the international community to recognize China’s attempt to distort United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 through legal battles, trying to turn the Taiwan issue into a domestic problem and obstruct international support for Taiwan. It also called for continued concrete actions to push back against and reject the Chinese Communist Party’s repeated misinterpretation of the resolution and attempts to change the fact that the two sides are not subordinate to each other. It refuted China’s claim that the so-called “One China Principle” is an international consensus, and jointly advocated for the maintenance of peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
