China’s Communist Party Leader Calls for Safeguarding Amid Deepening Crisis

The Communist Party leader Xi Jinping’s old speech from last year, which emphasizes the maintenance of his authority, was recently published by the Communist Party journal. However, some recent signals released by the Chinese Communist military have been cited as shaking Xi’s authority. There are reports that most Beijing officials are currently criticizing, and the authorities are very nervous.

The latest issue of the Communist Party’s “Qiushi” magazine published an article titled “Strengthening the Comprehensive and Strict Party Governance System,” indicating that it was Xi Jinping’s speech during the collective study of the 20th Central Political Bureau on June 27, 2024.

Xi claimed that “prominent problems such as impure ideology, organization, and work style within the Party have not been fundamentally resolved,” and that “the situation in the fight against corruption remains severe and complicated, with new situations and new problems constantly emerging.” He emphasized the importance of “strictly managing the Party’s organizational system” to fundamentally achieve “two upholds.”

The so-called “two upholds” was a political slogan proposed by Xi in September 2018, which essentially means upholding Xi’s “core position in the Party Central Committee and the whole party” and “safeguarding the authority of the Party Central Committee and centralized unified leadership.”

Xi personally issued a call for the entire party to uphold his authority, a move that has drawn attention.

Since the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party, it has been believed that Xi Jinping holds significant power. However, rumors about Xi’s poor health and decline in military power have emerged since 2023, followed by Xi making high-profile appearances again. In the past two years, many of Xi Jinping’s close allies have fallen from grace.

On February 10th of this year, an article published in the Chinese Communist military newspaper titled “Leading by Example is More Effective than Just Words” quoted a sentence at the beginning: “Adhere to seeking truth from facts, and adhere to leading by example.” This was a sentence spoken by Xi Jinping at a political work meeting of the Chinese Communist military in 2024. However, the article boldly emphasized that “governing below must start with governing above,” and explained that “if leading cadres do not abide by the law and regulations, the troops will have difficulty forming a unified ideology, unified orders, and unified actions.”

The author of this article is Tang Bing, a female major belonging to a certain department of the Chinese Communist military aerospace force.

In response, current affairs commentator Zhong Yuan said in an article on Epoch Times that it is very unusual for a female major to write that “governing below must start with governing above,” as the implication should be towards generals, commanders, and chairmen and vice chairmen of the Military Commission, which seems out of the ordinary.

Zhong Yuan believes that the recent publications in the military newspaper showing dissent are bold. When saying “a unified ideology” surpasses the norm for generals, and phrases like “if leading cadres do not abide by the law” directly point to the Chinese Communist Military Commission, it is evidently provocative.

Zhong Yuan also pointed out that the military newspaper has published several articles recently highlighting internal concerns within the military, including titles like “Building a Solid ‘Iron Wall’ for Security Work” and “Doing Practical Work for War Readiness,” all using Xi Jinping’s words but not praising him, and indirectly addressing issues at the top.

Furthermore, an article titled “Be Vigilant Against ‘Bonsai-style’ Inspections and Research” bluntly discussed how officials’ inspections are scripted, even citing examples like when Xi Zhongxun found that the farmers he visited were all pre-arranged and promptly left. Zhong Yuan believes that this is a direct comparison between Xi Zhongxun and Xi Jinping, as in recent years, Xi Jinping’s visits have often been accused of involving staged performances. This revealing report by the Chinese Communist military newspaper indirectly exposes internal divisions and challenges within the organization.

Zhong Yuan expressed that the recent deviation from the norm by the Chinese Communist military newspaper, continually targeting upper-level leaders and self-exposing their flaws, indicates that the chaotic state of the Chinese Communist military is far from over. Various factions are still battling, and through the public voice of the military newspaper, they may challenge each other. It is estimated that significant events may occur in 2025.

Veteran media personality Guo Jun revealed on the “Elite Forum” program that a friend mentioned that most Beijing officials are currently criticizing each other. The political situation in the Chinese Communist Party is very unstable, and the possibility of sudden events arising is very high. Therefore, the authorities in Beijing are currently very nervous. However, the more nervous Xi Jinping becomes, the more unstable his position may be, and internal power struggles within the Chinese Communist Party could intensify.

Veteran commentator Cai Shunkun recently revealed on social media that there were earlier reports stating that despite Xi Jinping making high-profile appearances again, he has suffered from a major illness this year. With no confirmed successor in sight and the delayed Fourth Plenum, the power struggle at the higher echelons has become particularly intense.

Cai Shunkun mentioned on the “Elite Forum” that Xi Jinping must be well aware that there is a group of people within the Party who wish for his downfall, keeping him constantly restless and worried about this matter day and night.
