Chairman of a well-known company in Taipei, Zeng Zhixin, stabs to death Chief Technology Officer, drawing attention

In Taipei, the well-known company CloudCloud Technology (CuboAi) has been involved in a senior-level murder case, with Chairman Zeng Zhixin stabbing the technical director surnamed Liang to death, allegedly due to differences in their ideologies.

Chairman Zeng Zhixin (Thomas) of CloudCloud Technology reportedly became upset on March 7th when Liang, the technical director, mentioned resigning. Losing control, Zeng brandished a knife and attacked Liang at the back of his neck in a fit of rage. Liang bled profusely on the spot and showed no signs of life, prompting Zeng to attempt self-harm. However, colleagues intervened and prevented Zeng from hurting himself further. Both individuals were promptly rushed to the hospital. Despite rescue efforts, Liang succumbed to his severe injuries, while Zeng Zhixin remains under medical care.

CloudCloud Technology is the world’s third-largest brand for “baby cameras” (baby monitors), emphasizing the use of AI to monitor babies’ conditions in real-time. The company has been awarded the “Industry Innovation Award” by the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te had visited the company before and had a photo taken with Chairman Zeng Zhixin.

Liang, the late technical director, had posted a lengthy resignation letter before the tragedy. In the letter, he recounted taking up the position of CTO in January 2022 at the invitation of Big B and Thomas (Zeng Zhixin). Initially feeling burdened with great responsibility, he likened it to having the Central Mountain Range on his shoulders. Liang mentioned that his connection with CuboAi began in the spring of 2018, when he ended his job at AppWorks and met Cubo’s team in a startup accelerator. Since then, he had been assisting in CuboAi’s product design and development, making continuous contributions to the company after becoming CTO in 2022.

Liang criticized Thomas’ management style, which became increasingly assertive over time, causing internal issues within the company. Particularly after Big Brian’s departure last year, Thomas canceled the Osprey project and forcefully intervened in product research and development. This led to internal chaos, a decline in product quality, and the direct withdrawal of all his “management rights.” Liang further expressed his anguish, stating that during the first working day after the Lunar New Year, he suffered public humiliation and bullying from Thomas during the Chinese New Year address. This incident prompted his decision to leave CuboAi and made him believe that the company’s supposed “zero-tolerance policy against workplace bullying” was just a facade.

He expressed his gratitude and regrets to Thomas, acknowledging his admiration for Thomas’ entrepreneurial determination and execution abilities. However, he emphasized that being an entrepreneur involves more than that; the ability to listen and let go is often more crucial. Liang hoped that Thomas would reflect on his past management methods and indicated that although Thomas might not be open to any advice at the moment, his intentions remained unchanged. If Thomas ever needed any advice, Liang would still be welcoming and willing to assist.
