TaiwanNext Foundation hosted a career seminar in Cupertino on January 19th, inviting renowned career consultant Ginger Tsun to provide practical advice for Taiwanese professionals in the workplace. Ginger Tsun, a former Engineering Director at Apple and executive at companies like Yahoo, Intuit, and LogMeIn, shared insights on setting personal work goals for the new year, mastering upward management skills, and effective communication with supervisors. Additionally, she discussed strategies for building a personal brand in the workplace and enhancing visibility to help participants grasp the key secrets to career advancement.

In the seminar that attracted nearly 200 participants both online and offline, Ginger Tsun emphasized the importance for Taiwanese individuals in the American workplace to break free from the “silence is golden” mentality, encouraging effective communication and proactive pursuit of opportunities. She stressed the significance of speaking up, expressing opinions, and showcasing one’s abilities to establish a strong personal brand in the workplace.

According to Ginger Tsun, advancement doesn’t solely rely on working silently but on clearly communicating your goals, achievements, and expectations to supervisors. She highlighted the vital role of integrating into American culture, participating in local social activities, understanding others’ needs, and forging mutually beneficial relationships to stand out in the workplace.

Katie Hsieh, the chair of the North America Taiwan Science and Technology Conference, expressed that the career seminar aimed to help individuals outline their workplace plans and goals for 2025, learn effective communication with supervisors to facilitate promotion or salary increase, and establish the value of personal branding.

The North America Taiwan Science and Technology Conference will introduce a series of exciting monthly events this year. On February 22nd, an AI seminar focusing on Generative AI and its applications and algorithms will be held at the Cupertino Community Hall. Furthermore, on March 15th, the Taiwan Demo Day will be hosted at Plug and Play to unite innovative teams across the U.S. to share creativity and link investment and supply chain in the Taiwan-U.S. startup ecosystem. Following that, a user experience and product development event will take place on April 15th. These activities aim to expand participants’ networks and enhance their professional knowledge and practical skills.

After the seminar, the floor was opened for a Q&A session where participants eagerly raised challenges and confusions they encountered in the workplace, seeking valuable advice from Ginger Tsun.
