Car Crashes into Hospital Lobby in Tieling, Liaoning, Resulting in at Least 1 Death and 1 Injury

In Liaoning Tieling City, a private car crashed into the lobby of a hospital, resulting in at least one death and one injury. The Chinese official statement claims that the driver mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake; however, there are also online rumors suggesting that someone vented their frustration due to a medical accident.

The incident occurred on February 22nd local time at noon. A video circulated online shows a black SUV crashing into the outpatient lobby of Tieling Dongdian Hospital, with the front of the car wedged at the staircase, causing severe damage to the stairs and railings. Inside the lobby, medical staff were in chaos, and many people were gathered around.

Subsequent videos show that special police cars rushed to the hospital, with the outpatient building’s entrance tightly covered with blue cloth.

According to mainland media and information leaked by local netizens, there were steps outside the building’s entrance, and the door was also very solid. The car suddenly sped up the steps, crashed through the door, then hit the second door, rushed into the lobby, and only stopped when it hit the staircase. A female medical worker inside the building was killed, and another person suffered a fracture from the impact.

Netizens marveled at how high the speed must have been to generate such a powerful impact. Some speculated: “Did they mistake the accelerator for the brake?” “Maybe high heels got stuck on the accelerator, resulting in this effect.” “When people get nervous, they tend to step harder.” Some also questioned whether the driver deliberately rammed into the building: “Was it loss of control or venting of anger?” “A medical incident turned into a rampage?” “Terrifying, there is a high school next to this hospital.”

On the same day, the hospital and local public security, traffic police, and other departments refused to comment to the media on the cause of the incident.

It wasn’t until the evening when Tieling City Public Security Traffic Police Brigade released a notice, claiming that the incident occurred around 11:17 a.m. at a “certain hospital in Yinzhou District.” The cause of the accident was stated as Wang (female) driving to take her mother and sister for medical treatment when their car got bumped by another vehicle, leading to her mistakenly hitting the accelerator and driving into the hospital lobby, resulting in one death and one injury. The driver, Wang, has been brought under control.

Online sources, on the other hand, claim that someone retaliated against the hospital due to a medical accident, resulting in three casualties.
