Car crashes into crowd after Eagles win NFC Championship, several injured

On Sunday night (January 26), an accident occurred in Philadelphia after the Philadelphia Eagles won the championship game of the National Football Conference (NFC) and a car crashed into a celebrating crowd, injuring several people.

According to reports, after the Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders with a score of 55-23 to secure the NFC championship and advance to the Super Bowl, the car plowed into the crowd near downtown Philadelphia around 9:30 PM.

Multiple people were reported injured in the incident, but their injuries were not life-threatening, as per the Associated Press.

The Philadelphia Police Department announced on social media that a car collided with pedestrians, and the driver responsible has been detained. The authorities mentioned, “At present, it does not appear to be an intentional act.”

While the police indicated that they do not believe it was an intentional incident, witnesses informed the local NBC affiliate that there was a dispute before the incident.

A witness told NBC10, “Everyone was dancing, the atmosphere was upbeat, but then a car came speeding down and hit 10 people.”

On February 9, the Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The game will be held in New Orleans, a city where a tragic incident occurred on New Year’s Day when a driver crashed into a crowd, resulting in 14 fatalities.

Coincidentally, on February 14, 2024, thousands of fans gathered with the Kansas City Chiefs to celebrate their victory against the San Francisco 49ers and defend their NFL championship. It was the Chiefs’ fourth Super Bowl win.

However, as people were leaving, gunshots suddenly rang out, causing panic as individuals sought cover. A local radio DJ was killed, and 22 others were injured on Valentine’s Day. Police detained two teenagers and one adult as suspects in the shooting, stating that the incident appeared to be unrelated to terrorism or extremism.
