Cantonese Shantou Students Protest Unreasonable School Rules, Videos Deleted Across the Internet

Recently, in a school campus in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, a group of students protested against an unreasonable school rule by forcefully opening the school gate and entering the premises. Currently, the related videos have been taken down.

According to a self-media account “Yesterday” known for focusing on mainland Chinese group events, on Sunday night (March 2), some senior students from the Gold Phoenix Peninsula campus of Shantou Second High School in Guangdong Province forcefully opened the school gate and entered the campus to protest against an unfair school regulation.

It was reported that on that day, it was the day of the English listening and speaking exam for the senior students. Some students were delayed in returning to school due to the long distance from the exam center and heavy traffic congestion during the evening rush hour. However, the school insisted on following the rule of closing the gate at 6 p.m. and refused to allow late students to enter the campus, sparking strong discontent among the students. After a brief standoff, the students forcefully opened the school gate and entered the premises.

This incident has stirred up discussions on Chinese social media platforms.

Some comments from netizens include: “For the senior section listening and speaking exam, being a few minutes late resulted in being locked outside, and that’s how it went. In general, it’s about the school’s unreasonable regulations.” “Have you ever taken this kind of exam? Different schools have different testing locations, some take the test in their own school, while others have to travel 10 kilometers away or just two to three kilometers. Add to that the rush hour after work, can you tell me how they can all arrive on time?”

Subsequently, some netizens reported, “They have all been banned from commenting.” “The videos have all been taken down.”

Well-known social media influencer, Luo Xiang, shared related videos on the X platform, stating, “Recently, in Shantou Second High School in Guangdong, some students were delayed in returning to school due to an exam, and the school suddenly decided that students cannot enter the school after 6 p.m. Many students and parents then overturned the school’s electric folding gate. Later, the school called the police, and many people faced retaliatory actions! All domestic platforms have banned the exposure videos! I don’t understand, and Chinese parents and students don’t understand, in such a system, what is the point of this brainwashing education!”
