Business trip turns into nightmare: Hangzhou woman raped, suffers from depression and considers resigning.

Recently, an employee from the Hangzhou branch of Zhongteng Human Resources Group Co., Ltd. revealed that two months ago, she was on a business trip with the company’s general manager and was almost sexually assaulted by a client at the hotel they were staying at. As a result, she developed depression and had to take sick leave. The company not only failed to provide care and support, but also suggested that she resign.

According to a report by “Yangcheng Evening News”, on January 13th of this year, a woman named Xiaolin (alias) went on a business trip to Anji, Zhejiang with the general manager and attended a dinner where they drank about half a catty of white wine. When she returned to the hotel feeling intoxicated, she was unexpectedly attacked by the client who tried to sexually assault her while she was asleep. Fortunately, she woke up in time to stop the assault and was not harmed.

Xiaolin reported the incident to the police, and the client was arrested. The hotel also compensated Xiaolin for the client’s unauthorized entry.

However, Xiaolin’s nightmare did not end there. According to her online posts, after the incident, she frequently experienced emotional breakdowns, insomnia, nightmares, as well as physical symptoms such as trembling hands, dizziness, and weak legs. After being diagnosed with severe anxiety and moderate depression by a doctor, she took sick leave to rest and recover.

Just a few days into her rest period, the general manager who was on the business trip with Xiaolin called and demanded that she either return to work as usual or resign. He also mentioned that if Xiaolin chose to resign voluntarily, the company could provide a compensation ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 RMB. Xiaolin refused this offer and requested 100,000 RMB as compensation. This led to a series of conflicts between Xiaolin and the company.

On February 27th, feeling that her condition was worsening with more noticeable physical symptoms, Xiaolin applied for sick leave again, but it was not approved. Nevertheless, she chose to continue her recovery and went to the hospital the next day for further examination, which resulted in a diagnosis of acute stress reaction. The doctor recommended a two-week rest. After explaining the situation to the responsible person at the headquarters, Xiaolin received a cold and perfunctory response.

Disappointed and dissatisfied, on March 6th, Xiaolin shared her experience online. Upon learning about this, the company offered 200,000 RMB in exchange for her to delete the post. Xiaolin refused and demanded 400,000 RMB as compensation due to the arrogant attitude of the negotiators at the time.

On March 7th, Xiaolin unexpectedly received 100,000 RMB in her account from the company. She was puzzled and anxious about this and requested a refund from the company. That day, representatives from the company also apologized to her in person, acknowledging their previous mistakes and lack of empathy, and offering the money as compensation.

However, Xiaolin stated that she did not accept the financial compensation, but only hoped for a personal apology from the company’s responsible person. On March 9th, Xiaolin posted again, declaring that she gave up on economic compensation other than resignation and work-related injury compensation.

Subsequently, on March 10th, Zhongteng Human Resources Group issued a statement acknowledging the inadequate care and support provided to the affected employee in this incident. The company had provided 100,000 RMB as compensation to the employee and was processing the work-related injury claim while awaiting investigation results.

The statement mentioned that the company believed the employee’s demand for an additional 400,000 RMB for mental damages was beyond legal requirements and they had not reached an agreement with the employee on this matter.

Xiaolin expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the statement, criticizing it for downplaying the issue and shifting blame, which she believed further harmed her. She mentioned that dealing with the disputes with the company had drained her physically and mentally, and she was still relying on medication to alleviate anxiety. Nevertheless, she vowed not to compromise and said, “I just want to stand my ground.”

On March 18th, a reporter from Yangcheng Evening News tried to contact the company’s responsible person using the phone number provided by Xiaolin, but the calls were declined.

On March 20th, the topic “Woman almost sexually assaulted on business trip and advised to resign by company” surged to the top of the trending list.
