On March 7th, at a press conference held at the Overseas Community Center, CKHSAASC President Mou Zhiyuan stated that the Jingguo Robotics Team has received strong support from the Southern California Chinese community. The alumni association, in conjunction with overseas Chinese forces, is rallying behind these high school students from Taiwan. Scheduled for the afternoon of March 15th, the alumni association will welcome Jingguo Robotics Team alumni at their hotel accommodations and present welcome packages. On March 18th, a visit to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is arranged. On March 23rd, a support group will travel to the “FRC Robotics San Diego Regional Competition” venue to watch the Jingguo Robotics Team’s crucial qualifying matches, finals, and award ceremony, welcoming friends from the Southern California overseas Chinese community to join in.
Since its establishment in September 2019, the Jingguo High School Robotics Team has achieved outstanding results in international competitions, having won honors such as the “Engineering Inspiration Award” and “Excellence in Engineering Award” at the FRC Robotics Competition. This competition, organized by the American non-profit organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), ranks among the top high school robotics competitions globally in terms of scale and difficulty.
The co-convener of the activities, Cheng Donghai, stated that the theme for the 2025 season is “REEFSCAPE,” and the Jingguo Robotics Team has specially developed the robot “Cybertorsk” to simulate marine ecology and complete coral reef protection missions, aiming to stand out in the competition.
Since 2017, the Jingguo South California Alumni Association has maintained close contact with the robotics team. Co-convener of the activities, Zhang Hu, mentioned that since the official establishment of the team in 2019, the alumni association has been returning to the school annually to visit the younger students. In 2023, when the Jingguo Robotics Team came to the U.S. to compete, activities such as press conferences, academic visits, and support groups at the competition venue were organized. In addition, in 2024, the alumni association awarded the “Golden Brick Second Phase Leadership Scholarship,” with UCSD student and Jingguo Robotics Team captain Zhou Weihan being one of the awardees, demonstrating the association’s commitment to cultivating technological talent.
Secretary-General of the Jingguo High School Southern California Alumni Association Luo Zailin expressed that the association hopes to rally the strength of Jingguo alumni in Southern California through a series of activities, encouraging younger students to bravely face challenges and showcase the technological prowess of Taiwanese youth. Additionally, press conferences and various themed exchanges will be arranged to provide more learning and networking opportunities for the students competing in the U.S.
Dr. Lin Yuanching also donated a newly compiled book, “Future Prospects of Long-Term Care Policies,” for sale, with all proceeds going towards welcoming the Jingguo Robotics Team.
