Brick wall on rooftop of residential area in Jiangxi collapses due to strong wind, multiple cars damaged.

Recently, China has been hit by extreme gusts of wind in several areas. In Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, the top floor turret of a residential building complex seemed to have been blown down by the strong winds, causing some bricks to fall and smash on the ground, damaging multiple cars and leaving residents too frightened to leave their homes.

According to a report by Li Zhi News, the collapsed structure was part of the top floor of a residential building in the Poly Tianhui Phase I residential estate in Nanchang. Some of the fallen bricks resulted in damage to several cars parked around the building, thankfully without causing any injuries.

Video footage shows debris scattered on the roof and parts of the outer wall with peeling paint that had been blown off by the wind.

Some homeowners have questioned whether the turret was illegally constructed or built with substandard materials, as they noticed a lack of cement. The explanation provided by the real estate company cited design flaws, but the homeowners have expressed distrust. “Our demand as homeowners is for a responsible assessment of the incident and structural inspections of the buildings.” However, after the incident, the community managers did not protect the site for evidence collection but instead immediately cleared the area, leading to suspicion of an attempt to destroy evidence.

It’s not just the top floor facing issues; the ceiling in the homeowner’s residence has developed cracks recently. “There are cracks in four places on my ceiling, and I haven’t repaired two of them because no matter how many times we fix them, they keep cracking the next day.”

The homeowner mentioned that in these past few days, residents have been too scared to leave their homes, fearing being hit by falling bricks. They have resorted to using the underground parking lot passageway for safety.

In response to the situation, the Construction Bureau in the Qingyunpu District stated that their staff has already been dispatched to the site and is currently investigating. Whether there are safety concerns will have to wait for expert evaluations.

As the community deals with the aftermath of the wind damage, concerns over safety, responsibility, and the overall structural integrity of the buildings remain at the forefront. Residents are understandably anxious and seeking accountability in ensuring their homes are safe and properly constructed.
