On Wednesday, February 12, the United States Senate voted 52-48 to confirm Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).
Gabbard will oversee 18 intelligence agencies in the United States and will be responsible for preparing the daily intelligence briefings for President Trump. Senator Mitch McConnell was the only Republican who voted against her confirmation.
Last Tuesday, February 4, the Senate Intelligence Committee confirmed Gabbard’s nomination with a narrow 9-8 vote, moving the confirmation process to the full Senate.
Gabbard played a significant role in Trump’s campaign. She left the Democratic Party in 2022. During the 2020 presidential race, she was one of several competitors against Hillary Clinton. Their notable clashes during the Democratic primary debates highlighted Gabbard as a formidable opponent to Clinton.
