Another former Samsung Electronics engineer has been arrested on suspicion of poaching key Samsung technical talent, accused of leaking semiconductor technology worth up to $3 billion to a Chinese company.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency as cited by KBS World on Tuesday, the case of the engineer in his sixties has been referred to the prosecution, with a recommendation for prosecution under the Employment Security Act.
The police stated that this former engineer, in a consulting capacity, participated in the establishment of Chengdu Gaozhen Technology Co., Ltd. (CHJS) in China and set up a headhunting company in Korea.
It is reported that the suspect then identified over 30 core technical personnel from Samsung, offering them up to three times their current annual salary.
Police mentioned that with the expertise of these personnel in Samsung’s 20-nanometer DRAM technology, they aided CHJS in establishing a DRAM production plant in China, successfully starting chip production within just one year and three months.
A total of 21 individuals have been sent for prosecution in this case, bringing the Chengdu Gaozhen technology leak case to a close. Representatives of CHJS, including former Samsung Electronics executive Choi, were arrested and sent for prosecution in September.
