On Tuesday, April 1, United States Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, concluded his over 25-hour long live protest speech in the Senate, with more than 350 million people on TikTok giving him likes, as reported by Epoch Times.
The speech began at 7 p.m. on Monday and by 7:07 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, over 270 million people had liked it. Fifteen minutes later, nearly 320 million likes were recorded, with the number continuing to rise. By 7:38 p.m., the likes surpassed 340 million. The event ended at 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday with the like count exceeding 350 million.
At 7:19 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Booker broke the record for the longest speech in the Senate. Prior to this, the record was held by Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, who spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes in 1957 to block civil rights legislation.
This speech was one of the actions taken by Democrats to combat the agenda of the Republicans and former President Trump. Democrats criticized the dangerous actions taken by Republicans, including a tax bill that could cut tens of billions in spending and significant workforce reduction by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Booker is the first African American to represent New Jersey in the Senate and one of only five African American senators among the 100 currently serving in the Senate. He has been in the U.S. Senate since 2013.
