Billionaire investor Mark Cuban revealed that despite campaigning for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, he has not donated to her campaign and has no intention of joining her government.
In an interview with ABC News’ “This Week” program on Sunday, Cuban discussed Harris’ potential as president and his experience campaigning with her.
He said, “I have not given her a penny. People think, ‘You gave her a lot of money.’ No, I have not given her a penny.”
Although he supports Harris and appeared with her at a campaign event in Wisconsin, he mentioned that he has not made any political donations since 2002.
Cuban stated, “If I have a good idea and am passionate about a candidate, I will offer help. But I don’t want them to work with me because I made a donation.”
He also expressed his belief that if Harris wins the election, she will be an excellent president.
“I think she would be excellent because she is open-minded. She is not an ideologue or a dogmatist. She wants to hear everyone’s opinions,” Cuban said.
Cuban also mentioned that he has no interest in holding public office, stating, “I’m not interested in serving in the cabinet for Kamala Harris or anyone else. As an entrepreneur, I like being a disruptor.”
Last month, during an interview with CNBC, he expressed his interest in becoming the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He had previously stated that the current chairman of the regulatory agency, Gary Gensler, should be fired.
Cuban, aged 66, is a renowned American investor. According to Fortune magazine, his net worth is estimated to be around $5.7 billion. He was previously the majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA.
His practice of avoiding donations to politicians contrasts with other businessmen who support Harris. For example, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings have donated millions to political action committees supporting Harris.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, on the other hand, has donated at least $75 million to his own political action committee supporting Republican candidate Donald Trump.
