On Wednesday (January 15), at 8:00 PM Eastern Time, President Joe Biden will deliver a farewell speech to the nation from the Oval Office of the White House. The event will be live-streamed by Epoch Times, New Tang Dynasty, with simultaneous Chinese translation.
The White House announced that President Biden will address the nation on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of his four-year presidential term. It will also be his final speech from the Oval Office.
In his farewell diplomatic speech on Monday (the 13th), Biden stated that he is handing over a stronger America than the one he received from former President Trump four years ago to Trump who won a second term, while noting that the adversaries are weaker.
“I have strengthened America in every field during my presidency,” he said, including diplomacy, military, technology, and economy, positioning America favorably on the global stage and laying the groundwork for the U.S. to continue to address threats from China and Russia.
Biden expressed that America is “winning the global competition.” Regarding China, he said, “Our strategic position is better than when I took office… Many experts predicted that the Chinese economy would inevitably surpass ours,” but “this will not happen. Now, according to the latest forecasts, based on China’s current development trajectory, they will never surpass us.”
Biden will step down on January 20, and former President and Republican presidential nominee Trump will be sworn in as the President of the United States on the same day.
Biden took office in 2021 but faced pressure from the Democratic party and withdrew from the re-election campaign against Trump following their debate performance on June 27 last year.
Biden explained his decision to forego reelection in a speech from the Oval Office. Another notable Oval Office speech he made during his presidency was in July when he urged to lower the political temperature following an assassination attempt on Trump during the prime time.
Vice President Harris assumed the Democratic presidential nominee position but lost to Trump in November last year. The Democratic party also lost control of the Senate and failed to flip the House.
