Beijing Universal Studios Responds to Allegations of Harassment by Employee

The harassment incident involving an employee at Beijing Universal Studios continues to escalate, prompting the theme park to respond by initiating an investigation and suspending the employee in question.

On March 19th, several netizens raised concerns on social media platforms, alleging that an employee at Beijing Universal Studios, while portraying the character of “Charlie Chaplin,” engaged in inappropriate behavior such as physical boundary crossing during interactions with visitors.

A series of videos titled “By the time I realized what had happened, it was too late” revealed scenes of potential harassment by the employee portraying Charlie Chaplin at Beijing Universal Studios during photo sessions with visitors.

According to a report by the Beijing Youth Daily, the videos were captured at different times, some dating back to August 20, 2023, while others were more recent. In these videos, the employee portraying Charlie Chaplin is seen posing in seemingly accidental postures and engaging in activities like kissing or staring at female visitors’ private areas during photo sessions in the park.

This incident has sparked intense discussions among netizens. Many users commented below the videos, stating that the actions clearly amounted to intentional harassment of female visitors. Some netizens also remarked that this was a case of customers paying to be harassed.

In response to the situation, Beijing Universal Studios stated that on March 19th, they were made aware of a complaint from a visitor regarding an employee. As a result, they have launched an internal investigation and suspended the employee from work. Any behavior that violates the company’s code of conduct and relevant protocols will be addressed based on the investigation findings.
