To welcome the arrival of the Year of the Snake in 2025, the four major overseas Chinese organizations in the Golden Mountain Bay Area will host the cultural event “Welcoming Spring with Calligraphy: Embracing the Year of the Snake” on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the South Bay Overseas Chinese Education Center. They sincerely invite people from all walks of life to join this grand event.
The event is organized by the Northern California Chinese School Association, co-sponsored by the Northern California Chinese Alumni Association, the San Jose Taiwan Association, and the Northern California Chapter of the World Chinese Business and Professional Women’s Association.
Director Zhuang Yashu of the Overseas Chinese Education Center stated that “Welcoming Spring with Calligraphy” is a significant annual event in the overseas Chinese community in the Golden Mountain Bay Area, attracting numerous overseas compatriots to participate. Calligraphy, as a traditional practice during the Lunar New Year, symbolizes auspiciousness for the coming year. It holds cultural significance for second and third-generation overseas Chinese in terms of cultural heritage and enriches the festive atmosphere for both the overseas Chinese community and the mainstream society.
Li Nayi, President of the Northern California Chinese School Association, mentioned that the “Year of the Snake Spring Calligraphy” event is the first grand celebration of the Lunar New Year in the Bay Area. It is the best choice for families to spend quality time together during the holiday season. The activities include calligraphy by master calligraphers, poster competition awards ceremony, traditional costume fashion show, lion dance performances, and Taiwan’s traditional food stalls, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year. This year, special invitations have been extended to American mainstream dignitaries to promote Chinese culture collectively, welcoming families to bring relatives and friends to participate.
Elected President Xi Zaoxun of the Chinese Alumni Association, President Gao Chunhui of the World Chinese Business and Professional Women’s Association Northern California Chapter, and President Di Peihua of the San Jose Taiwan Association attended the press conference to introduce the features and highlights of their respective booths.
The event features a variety of highlights, including:
1. Master Calligraphy for Good Fortune:
Renowned calligraphy masters will be on-site writing auspicious Spring Festival couplets, bringing abundant luck and blessings for the upcoming year.
2. Exciting Lunar New Year Performances:
Lion dance and San Tai Zi drum performances will enhance the festive atmosphere, captivating the audience in the lively spirit of the Lunar New Year.
3. Traditional Beauty through Ethnic Dance:
The Naluwan Dance Troupe will showcase a blend of traditional and modern ethnic dances, with stunning performances that amaze viewers.
4. Authentic Cuisine and New Year Goods:
Numerous food stalls and New Year goods street vendors will allow the public to savor authentic Lunar New Year flavors and purchase holiday items.
5. Children’s Fun Lunar New Year Fashion Show:
Children will dress in traditional Lunar New Year attire and participate in a costume fashion show competition.
6. Talent Showcase:
The poster competition awards ceremony will honor outstanding works that creatively integrate culture and art.
