Bao Steel Former Vice President Hu Hong Ousted, Resigned Abruptly Over a Month Ago

Former Deputy General Manager of Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (referred to as Baosteel) Hu Hong officially announced his investigation more than half a month after suddenly resigning.

According to a news release on February 11 from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CCDI), Hu Hong, former member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Baosteel, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and laws. Currently, he is under investigation by the disciplinary inspection commission of China Baowu Group and the supervisory commission of Pudong New Area in Shanghai.

Before the CCDI announcement, there were reports that Hu Hong had been taken away for investigation. On January 23, Baosteel issued a statement stating that its board of directors had received a written resignation report from the company’s Deputy General Manager Hu Hong, who resigned from his position due to personal reasons.

Public information shows that Hu Hong, born in 1970, graduated from Central South University of Finance and Economics with a major in Marketing in July 1993. After graduation, he joined Baosteel and held various positions within the company, including Manager of the Marketing Department at Chengdu Baosteel Western Trading Co., Ltd., Chief of Information Technology Department and Chief of Tin Plating Department at Baosteel Sales Office, Director of Tin Plating Department at Baosteel Sales Department, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Baosteel South Trade Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager (in charge) and General Manager at Wuhan Baosteel Central Trade Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager of Baosteel Sales Department, General Representative for Southeast Asia and South Asia Regions, General Manager of Baosteel Singapore Company, and General Manager of Marketing Center (Baosteel International) at Baosteel Co., Ltd.

In March 2020, Hu Hong was appointed Assistant General Manager and General Manager of Marketing Center (Baosteel International) at Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.

In April 2021, Hu Hong was promoted to Deputy General Manager of Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., in charge of marketing work until his resignation.

Baosteel is the core enterprise of China Baowu Steel Group Co., Ltd., listed in the Fortune Global 500. In February 2000, Baosteel was founded exclusively by Shanghai Baosteel Group Company; in the same year in December, it was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
