At least 20 people injured in explosion accident in Nanyang, Henan

On July 3rd, an explosion accident occurred in Nanyang City, Henan Province, China. Official reports stated that the accident has resulted in 20 injuries, including 3 severe injuries.

According to Dingduan News, around 2:00 pm on the 3rd, a netizen posted a video claiming that an explosion occurred in a shop on Changjiang Road in Nanyang City, Henan. There were casualties at the scene, and fire trucks have arrived.

The video footage shows the location of the incident on the intersection of Changjiang Middle Road and Dushan Avenue South in Wancheng District of Nanyang City. After the explosion, there were scattered electric vehicles, cars, and fragments of shop signs in the vicinity, with injured individuals lying on the ground with traces of blood around them.

Photos taken by residents in the vicinity after the accident show that some items from the shop were scattered near the storefront, and the windows and bodies of vehicles parked in front of the shop were damaged to varying degrees. Some windows on the second floor were shattered.

The Administration Committee of Gaoxin District in Nanyang City reported on the same day that on July 3, 2024, at 12:47 pm, a gas flash explosion accident occurred at a shop in Zhaoying Community, Gaoxin District. The accident resulted in 3 severe injuries, 3 moderate injuries, 7 minor injuries, and 7 slight injuries.

The report stated that the accident was caused by damage to the gas pipeline during maintenance work by the property company on the community’s water pipe, leading to a gas leak and subsequent flash explosion.

According to Xin Huanghe News, some netizens claimed that the explosion was suspected to have been caused by a gas leak from a restaurant, while others said it was due to accidentally hitting a gas pipeline during construction. These two claims have not been officially confirmed.
