Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University Exposed for Plagiarizing Entire Paper

Amid the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, academic scandals are on the rise. A vice professor at the School of Marxism of Xi’an Jiaotong University, known as the “Marxist Academy”, was exposed for plagiarizing an entire foreign language paper during his doctoral studies at Nanjing University, sparking attention.

According to Modern Express, on March 12th, a netizen disclosed that Wang, a vice professor at the Marxist Academy of Xi’an Jiaotong University, had plagiarized word for word an article published in the journal “World Philosophy” during his doctoral studies at Nanjing University. “The entire article is almost a direct copy of an English paper, from the main theme, structure, citations, to the content from start to finish, it is completely plagiarized, with hardly a single sentence written by the author.”

The post listed the article and the plagiarized English paper.

Public records show that the article titled “Dynamic Body: Body-Bodyization” was published in 2016 by Wang Jianhui, from the Philosophy Department of Nanjing University, who is currently a vice professor at the School of Marxism of Xi’an Jiaotong University.

A netizen on Zhihu commented that based on the information shared by netizens, this article showed a “mirror-like overlap” with a certain English paper in terms of topic selection, framework, theoretical arguments, and literature citations.

“What is even more shocking is that even the citation section directly copied foreign language literature without indicating the source, this blatant academic plagiarism was able to ‘pass’ under the double review mechanism of Nanjing University’s philosophy doctoral training system and ‘World Philosophy’,” the netizen said. “As the entity responsible for its academic training, how could Nanjing University let such blatant plagiarized papers pass? What’s more outrageous is that the entire article didn’t even bother changing the punctuation marks, directly translating the English paper into Chinese and daring to publish it.”

On the morning of March 13th, a staff member at the School of Marxism of Xi’an Jiaotong University responded to Modern Express, saying they had noted the relevant information online and are currently verifying the situation. The staff member stated, “The article he is currently involved in was published in ‘World Philosophy’, but ‘World Philosophy’ has not yet responded.”

Reportedly, both the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Philosophy, the organizing unit of “World Philosophy”, and the Philosophy Department of Nanjing University have not provided a clear response yet.

Wang Jianhui’s personal information on the official website of Xi’an Jiaotong University has been removed, and Wang’s name is also missing from the School of Marxism’s Institute of Foreign Marxism where he belongs. However, the university has not made any official announcement regarding the incident.

Under the twisted academic system in Communist China, plagiarism incidents are rampant. Just on February 22nd of this year, Wang Can, a postdoctoral fellow in Journalism and Communication at Fudan University and an associate professor at Wuhan University of Light Industry, was reported by Taiwan National Chengchi University Ph.D. candidate in the Chinese Literature Department, Ye Zhan, along with his friends Zhang Huanyi and Wang Xiuru, for maliciously plagiarizing a master’s thesis.

The joint statement by Ye Zhan and other victims mentioned that in December last year, it was discovered that Wang Can had plagiarized almost the entire content of four academic papers from four Taiwanese master’s theses between 2022 and 2024, and most of them were published in top-tier journals in mainland China. The statement pointed out that these four papers were all maliciously plagiarized “word for word,” including footnotes and even including figures and tables, without citing the original works, constituting extremely serious academic misconduct.
