Taiwanese artist Big S (Dee Hsu), aged 48, passed away due to pneumonia caused by influenza during her travels. Her ashes arrived in Taiwan after being cremated in Japan, escorted by her husband, Mike Hsu, on the 5th afternoon. Earlier, Little S (Barbie Hsu) expressed through her agent that there will not be a farewell ceremony for her sister. The low-profile Big S, who disliked birthday celebrations, once warned Little S not to allow anyone to sing birthday songs or blow out candles for her. Netizens lamented, “Even in leaving, she has such unique style.”
Big S’s ashes arrived in Taiwan on the afternoon of the 5th and have since been placed at home. Little S also conveyed through her agent: “We will not hold a farewell ceremony for Hsi Yuan, as she has always been a discreet person. If you miss her, keep her in your heart. Our family appreciates your love for Hsi Yuan.”
In fact, Big S detested birthdays the most. She once stated on a show that she decided to let go of the notion of aging after turning 23 and stopped celebrating birthdays. Unexpectedly, during an event, co-guest Ella purposely sang her a birthday song, to which Big S feigned annoyance, exclaiming, “Enough already!”
Big S even advised Little S not to sing her birthday songs or blow out candles. One year, her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, arranged a birthday party for her, but she directly stood them up. Many fans understand why a farewell ceremony is not being held for Big S, as it truly reflects her style.
Little S shares a strong bond with Big S. Facing the sudden tragedy, she has almost been unable to accept or let go. Apart from collapsing in tears at the hospital, “Whenever Big S is mentioned, tears flow, and no words can be spoken,” leaving those around her worried about her mental state.
According to “Mirror Weekly,” friends familiar with the Hsu family disclosed that what was supposed to be a joyful family trip turned into a heartbreaking separation, causing Little S to break down emotionally. They shared, “In Japan, she has been sitting there crying every day, nearly unable to make any decisions.” Finally, the family decided to “keep the urn permanently at home,” so that Little S can have moments to talk to her elder sister whenever she pleases.
On the 2nd, Little S confirmed the heartbreaking news of Big S’s passing, stating, “Thank you for your concern. During the New Year period, our whole family traveled to Japan, and my dearest and kind sister Hsi Yuan, unfortunately left us due to influenza complicated by pneumonia. I am grateful to have been her sister in this life, caring for each other and accompanying one another. I will always cherish and remember her! Shan, walk well on your journey! Forever love you, together remember forever.”
