Another Miss Universe: Chinese 25-year-old model Yang Zeqi went missing at the Thai-Burmese border.

In the wake of Chinese actor Wang Xing being kidnapped across borders, 25-year-old Chinese model Yang Zeqi has now been reported to have faced a similar ordeal. According to her family, Yang Zeqi went missing 20 days ago on the Thai-Myanmar border and her whereabouts remain unknown to this day.

On the evening of January 8th, Yang Zeqi’s family sought help on social media, stating that Yang Zeqi went missing on the Thai-Myanmar border on December 20, 2024, an experience eerily similar to what actor Wang Xing went through.

According to Yang Zeqi’s cousin’s description on social media, on December 18, 2024, Yang Zeqi saw a notice for a filming crew in a WeChat group and applied for participation using the contact information on the notice, passing a video interview for a role.

Two days later, on December 20, 2024, in the early morning, Yang Zeqi flew from Beijing Daxing Airport to Thailand. She arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok at 6:16 local time, then left the airport in a vehicle arranged by the filming crew. At 14:59 Beijing time, she switched to a second vehicle arranged by the crew and the location showed that she had reached the Thai-Myanmar border.

However, on December 21, Yang Zeqi sent out a distress message to a friend and then disappeared, shutting off her phone. Upon receiving Yang Zeqi’s distress message, the friend immediately contacted Yang Zeqi’s parents, and they all went to the police station to file a report.

It wasn’t until December 29 that Yang Zeqi’s mother suddenly received a video call from her, confirming her safety, but in the video, Yang Zeqi appeared visibly distressed. She was wearing black clothes, sitting on a chair with her hands resting on the table, and there were visible marks around her eyes. The phone was shut off again after the call.

Yang Zeqi’s cousin stated, “Upon realizing that Yang Zeqi was in danger, we as family and friends immediately contacted her parents. His mother’s eyes had cried until her vision was impaired, and she was on the verge of mental breakdown.”

As per the introduction, Yang Zeqi was born in 2000, hailing from Baoding City in Hebei Province, China. She has appeared in movies and has done numerous photo shoots.

According to Yang Zeqi’s family, the group that deceived Yang Zeqi provided information that was identical to the information received by “Actor Xingxing,” referring to Chinese actor Wang Xing, who had recently gone missing while filming in Thailand and was rescued successfully on January 7.

Thai media reported that the company behind Wang Xing’s kidnapping was “Apollo Brilliance,” led by a boss from Guangdong province, known as “Golden Tiger” or “Manager Yu.” His subordinate, Jincan, has been arrested by Thai authorities.

Chat records circulating online indicate that the boss responsible for Wang Xing’s kidnapping knows many Chinese police officers. “Many domestic police officers know this boss.”

Commenting on this, some netizens said, “If the bosses are all Chinese, can they rely solely on Thailand and Myanmar for support? Who recruited and organized people to go there domestically? It’s hard to believe that these people went there voluntarily.”

Of note is that in addition to Yang Zeqi and Wang Xing, numerous Chinese nationals have been victims of cross-border kidnappings and remain missing to this day.

According to Wang Xing, he was held captive alongside approximately 50 other individuals after being abducted, all of whom were Chinese.

On the same day Wang Xing was rescued, within a mutual aid group for the families of the 487 trapped individuals in Myanmar, 174 family members provided relevant information, leading to the document named “National 174 ‘Xingxing’ Trapped in Myanmar Joint Rescue.”

Apart from these 174 family members, many other Chinese individuals have posted distress messages on social media, having gone missing on the Thai-Myanmar border as well. They disappeared even before Wang Xing, their families have reported to the police and sought help on social media, yet there has been no news so far.

For instance, former Beijing TV host Tan Zhaojun reportedly went missing in northern Myanmar as early as September last year, and three months have passed with still no trace of her. If not for Wang Xing’s case trending, Tan Zhaojun’s disappearance may have gone unnoticed by the public.
