Aliens Turned Former Soviet Soldiers into Stone? CIA Files Circulating Online

A declassified document released on the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) website has sparked attention, claiming that the former Soviet army encountered a UFO attack, causing over twenty soldiers to petrify, leading to discussions about UFOs.

According to a report by Fox News on April 13th, this document circulating online summarized articles published in the Canadian Weekly World News and the Ukrainian newspaper “Holos Ukrainy.” The document was approved for public release in May 2000.

The first-hand account in this document describes Soviet soldiers retaliated upon shooting down a UFO that flew over a military base and subsequently faced a retaliatory attack from aliens. Allegedly, aliens emerged from the wreckage, fused into one entity, emitting a bright light that turned all soldiers present into stone, except for the two surviving soldiers.

“If the KGB’s files match the facts, this is an extremely dangerous case,” the document quoted a CIA representative who preferred to remain anonymous. “The weapons and technology possessed by aliens far exceed our imagination. Even under attack, they can protect themselves.”

The Canadian Weekly World News estimated that the so-called incident occurred between 1989 and 1990 and was first reported in 1993.

According to the document, information obtained by the US intelligence agencies indicated that a “disc-shaped, low-flying spaceship” appeared over a Soviet unit participating in a training exercise. Officials wrote that for “undetermined reasons,” soldiers fired a surface-to-air missile at the unidentified aircraft, causing it to crash near the military base.

The document detailed how “five humanoid creatures with small stature, large heads, and black eyes” emerged from the downed spacecraft, fused together to form a single entity emitting a loud humming sound.

Reportedly, this spherical object then unleashed a blinding light. Witnesses claimed that 23 soldiers suddenly turned into “stone pillars.” Two men survived because they had positioned themselves in a shady area, avoiding direct exposure to the intense light.

Officials noted that the remains of the “petrified soldiers” and the spacecraft were transported to a secret research facility near Moscow, where scientists found that the soldiers’ molecular structure matched that of limestone. The document claimed that scientists believed the cause of this event involved an “energy source” unknown to humans.

While the exact origins of this document are unclear, it likely originated from a telegram or other form of open-source information.

However, former CIA operative Mike Baker expressed skepticism about the fantastical claims detailed in the report.

“If such an event had actually occurred, regardless of its nature, I doubt the actual report would drastically differ from the initial versions after five, six, or seven revisions,” Baker told Fox News.

On August 14, 2020, the US Department of Defense announced the formation of a special task force to investigate “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” (UAP) or Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) encountered by US military aircraft.

“The Pentagon’s stance is that if pilots encounter something they can’t identify during flight, out of national security considerations, (officials) should ensure it is cataloged and determine what it is,” Baker told Fox News. “There is a reason for investigating these things. It doesn’t mean you’re investigating alien spacecraft, but that’s what people think when they hear about these things.”

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Regarding the peculiar claims of alien invasion and retaliatory attacks during the Soviet era, Baker remains doubtful of their veracity.

“I’m sure there’s something out there,” Baker said. “I just don’t believe they landed decades ago, turned Soviet soldiers into limestone, and we are only hearing about it now. I don’t think that’s the case.”

“Many people believe these documents definitely contain solid evidence,” former UK Ministry of Defense official and UFO expert Nick Pope told Fox News. “People generally believe that some in the US intelligence community know some of these are extraterrestrial beings and hold relevant documents and files. Of course, that’s what everyone really wants to know.”

Nonetheless, reports on the CIA researching UFOs have persisted. According to a report by the UK’s Daily Mail on November 29, 2023, three sources revealed that since 2003, a branch of the CIA’s Science and Technology Directorate’s “Office of Global Access” has been responsible for retrieving UFOs globally, collaborating with the military and private contractors to analyze these objects. One source mentioned that the US government has acquired at least nine “non-human aircraft,” some being wreckage from crashes, but two were intact.

In July 2023, former intelligence officer David Grusch of the US Department of Defense testified at a congressional hearing, stating his belief that the US government possesses “non-human aircraft.” He considers UFO sightings a national security issue, with the government being overly secretive about these events.
