39-year-old mainland Chinese actress Qi Wei, who married former Korean boy band TAKE member Li Chengxuan in 2014, has two children with him, making their family of four full of happiness. Recently, during an interview at the show “Riding the Wind 2024”, Qi Wei was asked about her figure. She candidly admitted, “I don’t recommend everyone to be as thin as we are on a regular basis.” Her words struck a chord with many netizens, leading the keyword to trend on Weibo.
Qi Wei and Li Chengxuan met during their collaboration on the idol drama “Another Me in the World”. Before their marriage, Qi Wei called out on Weibo, “Chengxuan oppa, how about becoming my son-in-law in China?” Li Chengxuan responded on Weibo, “On the day of the full moon of the Mid-Autumn Festival, it is when I become a son-in-law in China.” On September 8, 2014, which was the Mid-Autumn Festival, the two held their wedding in Las Vegas, USA.
Starting her career through a talent show, Qi Wei is now a mom of two. During a recent interview with Chinese media, she was complimented on her postpartum figure, stating that she is “even thinner than what is seen on screen”. Reflecting on this, she expressed that as an artist, one has to endure many worries, such as the concern over body shape and condition after childbirth. She encouraged women by saying, “If you want to achieve something, there is always a way. Don’t let age or past experiences hold you back.”
Furthermore, Qi Wei mentioned, “I also don’t recommend everyone to be as thin as we are on a regular basis.” In her opinion, artists maintain a good physique due to job requirements. However, she pointed out that not all acting roles demand slimness, as diverse character appearances are needed.
Qi Wei succinctly explained the impact of weight loss efforts, saying, “If someone looks normal in front of the camera, they might seem like a paper-thin figure in reality; if on screen they seem thin as paper, in real life they might not look human.” This implies that what seems overweight on TV may actually be a comfortable and proportional body shape in real life.
She disclosed that she had achieved a comfortable appearance even before giving birth to her second child in 2022. Qi Wei acknowledged that she might now appear somewhat “paper-like” and humorously suggested that she might transition to “not a human” in the future due to her busy schedule and extensive physical activity while filming “Riding the Wind 2024”. She joked, “I don’t want to become ‘not a human’, so staying as I am now is just fine.”
Qi Wei’s words resonated with many netizens, with comments such as, “Everyone should have their own lifestyle and attitude, understand their own beauty, and not constantly pursue the image others have. Being fat or thin, as long as you like and it suits you, being healthy is what matters.” “Qi Wei remains as sincere as ever.”
