She claimed to have been involved in a hit-and-run incident while driving under the influence without a license during filming in Hengdian, which led to her administrative detention.
In a recent live broadcast, Cui Manli confessed that she had driven without a license after drinking alcohol during a filming trip to Hengdian, accidentally hitting another vehicle on the road. After the incident, she and her friends were so scared that they stayed overnight in a different hotel. During the live stream, she casually described the whole incident as “funny,” causing a stir among viewers.
Many netizens were surprised by her “confession” and expressed concerns that the drama “Empresses in the Palace” might be taken down due to her involvement. Some netizens believed that she was “showing off” to gain more traffic and increase her popularity. Realizing that things were going south, Cui Manli hastily claimed that the drunk driving incident was just a “dream” and “nonsense.” However, the authorities started investigating the matter on February 11.
In response to the circulating rumors on the internet about “actress Cui disclosing hit-and-run incident without a license,” the Dongyang police in Zhejiang Province issued a statement on February 13, stating, “During a live stream on the internet platform, Cui Manli fabricated false information claiming she had driven under the influence without a license and fled the scene while filming in Hengdian in order to attract attention and fans, causing serious negative social impact.” As a result, Cui Manli has been administratively detained.
Public records show that Cui Manli was born in February 1988 in Fuyang, Anhui Province and graduated from the Beijing Film Academy. She entered the entertainment industry in 2008. In 2011, she became well-known for her role as the cunning and arrogant character “Yu Ying” in the TV drama “Empresses in the Palace.”
