Last night (February 18), a huge fire broke out at a woven bag factory in Aojiang Town, Pingyang County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Local netizens reported that the fire burned from around 6 o’clock to early morning on the following day (February 19), lasting for over ten hours.
Videos circulating online showed thick smoke billowing from the factory building in the darkness of the night, with flames soaring into the sky, illuminating half of the night sky. Many people gathered around to watch, but the fierce blaze left them feeling helpless.
According to several eyewitnesses commenting in the video section, the factory on fire specialized in producing woven bags made of plastic, which fueled the intensity of the fire, making it difficult to put out. One eyewitness mentioned, “They could only protect the adjacent factory but couldn’t completely extinguish the flames.”
Residents in the nearby community also reported experiencing a power outage caused by the massive fire. Under the shroud of thick smoke, one resident stated, “My home was covered in black smoke.”
Netizens revealed that firefighters from Ruian City and many other locations rushed to the scene that night. However, the fire raged on from around 6 o’clock in the evening until early morning the next day, lasting for over ten hours.
On the morning of February 19, Xinpei News contacted the Pingyang County Fire Rescue Department regarding the incident. Staff confirmed that the fire had been brought under control, with no casualties reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
