On January 6th, villagers from Licheng Town in Lipu City, Guangxi, posted a video claiming that they discovered a dead pig in the village well. Some villagers use the water from this well in their daily lives. The incident has sparked discontent and public scrutiny among the villagers.
The video shows the dead pig with blackened limbs, a dark red body, and tied with a stone.
Villagers mentioned that during a village event that required a large amount of water, they discovered the presence of the dead pig in the well.
According to a report by “JueMu News,” the villager who posted the video mentioned that some villagers rely on the water from this well in their daily lives. Now, they plan to drain the water, disinfect it, and resume its use.
On January 7th, personnel from the government of Licheng Town stated that they are investigating the matter and are awaiting the results of the police investigation.
Officials from the Health Bureau of Lipu City mentioned that they received notification from the police about the discovery of a dead pig in a village well. They dispatched personnel to conduct water quality tests, and the results of the tests are currently unknown.
Villagers have been discussing the incident, expressing their views that the perpetrator of such an act was malicious. By tying a dead pig with a stone at the water outlet, any use of the water would lead to contamination. The surrounding area is predominantly farmland, and if it weren’t for the need for a significant amount of water for the nearby village event, the situation of the pig being thrown into the well wouldn’t have been discovered.
Comments below the video posted by villagers included sentiments such as: “This act shows how cruel the perpetrator was targeting the villagers in this village, there must be some grudge involved.” Some suggest that open wells like this should be enclosed and secured to prevent accidents involving children falling in.
Netizens question: “How wicked must someone be to do such a thing?” They further inquire about the timeline of when the pig was thrown in and speculate that the intention behind tying a stone to the pig was to ensure it remained submerged, which indicates a deliberate act.
“This person must be aware that almost all the villagers in this village use this well, while some avoid it. The perpetrator should have a good understanding of this situation, suggesting the individual could be someone from nearby or with a grudge against the village.”
On January 7th, “Xiaoxiang Morning News” reported that they reached out to the government of Datang Town in Lipu City, where officials stated they had not yet received any relevant complaints.
An employee from the police station in Licheng Town under the Lipu City Public Security Bureau mentioned that on January 6th, they received distress calls from villagers. The well in question is located in Datang Village in Licheng Town, and nearly half of its residents use this well as a source of drinking water.
