Recently, the daughter of Baidu’s Vice President Xie Guangjun got into an argument with netizens on social media over celebrity-related issues. Afterwards, on the social media platform “Kaihe” (illegally obtaining and disclosing others’ privacy information), personal and family information of netizens was exposed. This incident quickly became a hot topic and raised concerns among netizens about Baidu leaking user data.
According to reports from Kuaiketech and First Financial, a pregnant netizen commented on a Korean artist’s schedule on social media and was then insulted and harassed by the artist’s fans. Netizens, identified as “Your eyes are the smallest lake in the world” (referred to as “Eyes” below) and other fans of the artist, also exposed the personal information of the pregnant netizen online, as well as insulted and harassed the pregnant netizen’s family.
Some netizens discovered that “Eyes” has been illegally disclosing personal information of ordinary people in fan circles since 2024 and warned that such behavior is illegal. However, “Eyes” stated that they are not in the country and are not afraid to be reported to the police. The IP address associated with “Eyes” shows that they are in Canada.
Reports indicate that “Eyes” is currently studying in Canada and has been active on social platforms under aliases like “Kuai Ai,” engaging in illegal disclosure of privacy in fan communities. Some related fans revealed that “Eyes” has disclosed information of no fewer than 100 individuals.
Several netizens uncovered that “Eyes,” whose real name is Xie Andi, had previously shared a work certificate showing that their father’s monthly income is 220,000 yuan and that their father holds the position of Vice President at Baidu. Moreover, “Eyes” once posted a screenshot of a received item on Weibo, showing the recipient as “Xie Guang X.”
Following the exposure of this information, it stirred up a huge storm online, with netizens questioning whether Baidu had leaked users’ personal information.
On March 17, in response to online criticisms, Baidu’s Vice President Xie Guangjun issued an “apology statement” on WeChat moments, explaining that their “13-year-old daughter got into an online dispute with someone, lost emotional control, and posted others’ privacy information from an overseas social community site on their account, which led to their own personal information being exposed, triggering a spread of negative comments,” and expressing deep regret for not teaching their daughter to respect and protect others’ and her own privacy in a timely manner, sincerely apologizing to all those affected.
However, many netizens were not convinced, expressing sentiments like, “Is this an excuse for her behavior?”, “Baidu? Probably learned by example, right?”, “This isn’t the first time, right? And how did she even get that permission?”, “This should be investigated to see if she illegally accessed information from Baidu’s database. If so, it would involve criminal liability, and an apology won’t resolve that.”
