The mainland internet celebrity and singer Yang Wenzhi (formerly Yang Qianfei), who has millions of fans, was recently arrested by the police in Yunnan province after a performance. This arrest took place at her Maybach luxury car where she was tracked and apprehended.
According to reports from mainland media, Yang Wenzhi had accumulated a debt of 1.1 million yuan due to an investment dispute from her early years. Through court mediation, she had already repaid tens of thousands of yuan, leaving a balance of 700,000 yuan, and had reached an agreement with the other party to repay the debt within 2 to 3 months. Recently, she started a nationwide concert tour and was accused of hiding and evading her debt obligations.
It was reported that a court received information through monitoring 48 hours before Yang Wenzhi’s concert began, revealing her scheduled performance in Yunnan. Subsequently, a team of six enforcement officers and judicial police, utilizing big data, pinpointed her exclusive Maybach car to prepare for her arrest across provinces.
In the early hours of March 11 at 1:15 a.m., after finishing her concert tour, Yang Wenzhi boarded her car and was promptly followed by the police who had been surveilling her for 16 hours. She was apprehended as soon as she exited the vehicle.
At 5 a.m., an agreement was reached between both parties. She immediately paid 540,000 yuan and committed to a phased repayment of the remaining debt; simultaneously, the court temporarily lifted the “restriction on high consumption” measure against her.
In the late hours of March 12, Yang Wenzhi posted a video response on social media, expressing deep regret for the misuse of public network resources. She clarified that while it was true she owed the debt, there was no malicious intent to conceal her whereabouts. She explained that due to her performance in Kunming, she couldn’t travel to Hunan to settle the matter, and the court came to Kunming to handle it in person. She emphasized her commitment to not avoid or make excuses for her debts.
Public records show that Yang Wenzhi, 32, was born in Songtao County, Guizhou Province, and graduated from the Beijing Modern Music Academy. Her collaboration with her brother, Yang Gang, in the duo “Innate Siblings,” has made them one of the influential folk music groups in mainland China. With her unique voice and the support of live streaming platforms, she quickly gained popularity online, and her hit song “Guizhou, Beloved Hometown” has garnered over 300 million views.
