On February 14, 2025, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie appointed Alfonso Felder, a top executive of the San Francisco Giants, as a director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).
Felder, an operations expert with extensive experience in transportation and urban development planning, currently serves as the Chief Operations and Experience Officer of the San Francisco Giants.
Mayor Lurie stated that Alfonso Felder’s professional expertise in large-scale operations management and community development will “drive progress for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. I believe he will help create a more sustainable, efficient, and convenient transportation system that benefits all residents.”
Regarding his appointment, Felder expressed his anticipation to utilize his experience, collaborate with all stakeholders, and collectively develop and promote favorable transportation policies to “ensure the continued optimization of San Francisco’s transportation system.”
Felder has served the San Francisco Giants for nearly thirty years in various key roles, including overseeing the day-to-day operations of Oracle Park, capital management and project renovations, as well as planning transportation systems for large-scale events.
Additionally, he played a crucial role in the Mission Rock development project of the Giants while also contributing to the ongoing success of the team’s spring training operations in Scottsdale, Arizona.
A native San Franciscan, Felder holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies from Harvard University. He has been actively engaged in community affairs, having founded the San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation and collaborated with multiple community organizations to drive development initiatives. ◇
