Elon Musk announced on the social media platform X that SpaceX’s headquarters will officially be located at the Starbase in Texas, also known as the “Starport”.
In July of this year, Musk had stated that he would be relocating both the headquarters of the social media platform X and the rocket company SpaceX from California to Texas. The decision was influenced by the recent gender identity law passed in California, which Musk referred to as the “last straw”.
The billionaire had previously expressed his intention to move SpaceX’s headquarters to the existing launch site in Boca Chica, located in southern Texas, while the headquarters of X would be shifted to Austin. However, the extent to which jobs or facilities from California will be transferred to Texas remains unclear.
Earlier this year, Musk also changed the registered location of SpaceX from Delaware to Texas. This decision came after a Delaware judge invalidated Musk’s $56 billion compensation plan, prompting Musk to call a shareholder meeting to vote on moving Tesla’s registration to Texas.
In 2021, Musk had moved Tesla’s headquarters from California to Texas, while stating that California will continue to serve as its engineering center.
Additionally, in 2021, Musk also relocated his residence from California to Texas, a state known for not levying personal income tax.
