The 7th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) is set to be held from July 21 to 28, with the organizers recently announcing the list of nominees. The event will honor Japanese master Hirokazu Kore-eda and Indonesia’s Christine Hakim with lifetime achievement awards, while the Outstanding Film Achievement Award will be given to Hong Kong renowned actor and director Chapman To.
The jury for this year’s competition segment is led by the distinguished Indian director and actor, Suhasini, along with notable Hong Kong screenwriter and director, Felix Chong, the mastermind behind the “Infernal Affairs” series, renowned Chinese professor and critic, Zhang Xianmin, veteran film critic and director from Thailand, Kong Lee Dick, and Malaysia’s famous actor, Zul Ariffin.
The film festival will kick off with the Malaysian horror film “Indera”, directed by local filmmaker Ho Ming Jin, starring Shaheizy Sam and Azira Shafinaz. Two Hong Kong films, “Love After Love” directed by Theresa Hui and starring Josephine Siao, and “Tracey” directed by and starring Chapman To, will be featured as the closing double-bill screenings.
This year’s MIFFest competition segment presents nine groundbreaking films from around the world, each offering unique insights and fresh perspectives. Malaysian director Wong Lek Lin’s film “Urbanite” has received a total of 7 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director (Wong Lek Lin), Best Screenplay (Wong Lek Lin), Best Actor (Wu Kang Ren), Best Supporting Actor (Dickson Cheng, Kent Tong), and Best Supporting Actress (Lin Sin Yu).
The 7th Malaysia International Film Festival will be held from July 21 to 28 at The Exchange TRX. The “Golden Rings Award” ceremony will take place on July 27 at 8:30 pm, at the Auditorium Seri Angkasa, and will be broadcast live via the MIFFest official Facebook page, Malaysia’s national broadcaster RTM’s TV2 channel, and the RTM Klik platform.
