On July 3rd, there were reports circulating online about a shipwreck incident near the construction site of an ocean park in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province. A video posted online showed what appeared to be a sunken ship about a hundred meters away from the beach. A person in the video mentioned, “The things on the boat, the planks, and oil have all drifted into the sea. It’s unknown if there are people on the boat, rescue teams are arriving at the scene.”
On the afternoon of the 4th, the “New Yellow River” learned from the maritime police department that the incident had resulted in 4 fatalities and 2 people missing, who were still being searched for.
Another informant revealed that the involved vessel set sail around 5:40 am on the 3rd, with 6 people on board experiencing distress shortly after. The informant stated, “The waves were strong, and the boat capsized directly.” It was disclosed that the vessel involved was a “three-none” wooden fishing boat, suspected of illegally going out to sea.
Reportedly, in Liaoning Province, the fishing offseason for the year 2024 is from 12:00 pm on May 1st to 12:00 pm on September 1st. Fishing boats on offseason must return to their home ports for the offseason before 12:00 pm on May 1st, and after the deadline, all fishing boats are not allowed to change ports on their own.
