33-year-old Mainland Chinese Actor Gao Taiyu Suddenly Announces Retirement, Saying “No Regrets”.

Famous mainland Chinese actor Gao Taiyu (formerly known as Yao Yang), who has starred in nearly 30 films and TV dramas such as “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils” and “Douluo Continent,” shocked the internet on March 25 by announcing his withdrawal from the entertainment industry in a lengthy post on Weibo. While many fans expressed surprise and regret, he emphasized that he has no regrets about his decision.

At 33 years old, Gao Taiyu has been in the industry for a decade, appearing in popular dramas like “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,” “Douluo Continent,” “Dual Journey,” “Seven Selves,” and “Youth Fight,” amassing a total of 5.26 million fans on Weibo. With his tall and handsome appearance, he was dubbed as the “new generation idol of dramas.” However, on the 25th of March, he abruptly declared on Weibo, “I am actor Gao Taiyu, and I have decided to retire.” This announcement quickly became a hot topic on Weibo.

In his lengthy post, Gao Taiyu reflected on his acting career, stating, “In these ten years, I have lived through a thousand lives with other people’s names. A king who sheds blood at the tip of a sword, a general who swallows mountains and rivers, a brother who dominates in a fantasy world, and even the overbearing and moody CEO that made young girls scream.”

He revealed that since 2023, he had stopped taking on acting roles in dramas and films, choosing instead to immerse himself in businesses that bring him joy. He candidly expressed, “The spotlight of the entertainment industry can be blinding… In the days without the heavy makeup and costumes, I have started my own clothing brand and invested in a Western restaurant. The aroma of coffee at 10 in the morning has replaced the early call sheets at 5 in the morning; squatting in the park watching ants move brings me more joy than walking the red carpet.”

Gao Taiyu expressed gratitude to his fans who have supported him along the way. While many fans were taken aback and saddened by his decision, he reiterated that he does not regret it, stating, “The movie that belongs to me has just begun.” He reflected, “I’m leaving the entertainment industry’s feast early in order to focus on the most important work of this lifetime – becoming myself,” and concluded by saying, “I am no longer an actor; I am Gao Taiyu.”
